Instructions
1
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat, then toss in the sliced onions and a pinch of sugar. Cook gently, stirring now and then, until the onions turn deep golden and taste sweet, about 20 to 25 minutes. If they start to stick, just splash in a little beef broth to loosen them up.
2
In a bowl, mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Gently shape the meat into four equal patties.
3
Heat up your grill or a skillet, then cook the patties until they’re done just the way you like them.
4
In a small bowl, stir together the chopped garlic and soft butter. Spread this mixture on the inside of the buns and toast them golden brown.
5
Put a cooked patty on the bottom half of each bun. Spoon on a big helping of the caramelized onions and top with a slice of cheese.
6
Slide the burgers onto a baking sheet and broil them for about one minute, just until the cheese is bubbly and starting to brown.
7
Sprinkle the melted cheese with fresh or dried thyme, add the top bun, and serve right away.
