schnitzel-jagerschnitzel-hunter's-schnitzel

Schnitzel is German for "thin" and it is less a specific dish and more of a preparation with hundreds of variations. In this case, Jägerschnitzel, or Hunter's Schnitzel, is the more "rustic" and simple since it was allegedly prepared by hunters out in the field. In Bavaria, the cutlets are unbreaded, whereas in the north, they are often breaded. They are accompanied by a thick gravy and sautéed mushrooms (sometimes also sautéed carrots or other root vegetables). Assumes 2 cutlets per person.
