I grew up eating this for breakfast — we simply called it daal. But when I got married, I suddenly found myself being served daal for dinner — all sorts of daals, and pretty much every single day! While it was all absolutely delicious, I remember thinking how peculiar it felt at first… daal for dinner?? What?? Of course, everyone else was just as baffled by me — daal for breakfast??! And that’s how this dish earned its affectionate name in our home: “Breakfast Daal.” These days, though, we happily enjoy daal at any time of day — because really, you can never get too much of a good thing.
