I prefer the coconut cream compound over the extract. However, coconut extract will also work to bring the coconut through, the flavor will just have less depth. You can also optionally add toasted coconut flakes to the exterior coating. Personally, I prefer the texture without. This recipe is inspired by Sam from Buttermilk by Sam.
